No one answered this, so I guess I will do some additional testing to
see how it works.

Yes, or root.  I now have a working vpopmail installation serving the
virtual domain example.com.  It doesn't require a password.

I spent almost as much time in the last couple days installing things
as writing code!  VPopMail has more options than you can shake a stick
at and the sSMTP program wanted libnsl* which doesn't exist on
FreeBSD.  Sigh.

However, I just ran a test, logging into tmda-ofmipd as
[EMAIL PROTECTED] (from sSMTP) and sending mail to myself.  The
postmaster virtual user's config was read from the postmaster's user
directory, logging occurred to the file specified there and the
outgoing filter (non-default location) was consulted and used.  The
mail was successfully delivered to me.

This is a typical vpopmail installation.  I still need to test the
IP-based domain config and the VMailMgr support.  After I finish basic
testing and write a HOWTO, I'll get all this checked in.
