I think doing two calls is better since you're doing two different
things anyway - first checking if it's a valid address, and secondly
seeing if it matches your filter.  So why not try to implement this
using the existing commands first and see what you come up with.
I definately think other users will be interested in this as well.
Perhaps I could encourage you to write up a wiki howto once you're
done.  :)
