Be aware that at least one other condition SEEMS to mimic the gross symptoms of TM, namely, an artery blockage within the spinal cord. However, the spinal fluid will not indicate signs of inflammation. This was my situation. I left the hospital with paraplegia, a diagnosis of TM and a lab report of clear CSF. Years later Kerr read my records and corrected the diagnosis.

The "itis" ending of myelitis means inflammation.

When I was dx with TM, my neuro told me never to have any kind of immunization again

I was told my TM was probably the result of my flu shot 11/03. Had intermittent numbness on the right side after that, but it always went away until 2/04. Then numbness & muscle weakness progressed from my toes to my chest & was dx with TM by 4/04.

I have discussed this with Dr. Kerr and several other knowledgable doctors.

If you're going to get TM from a viru or immunization, the TM will occur within 10 (TEN) days. I had my summer flu the last week of July and within 7 days had TM symptoms.

And just because you got TM from a flu shot doesn't mean you can't have flu shots in the future.

There are lots of MD's out there who know almost nothing about TM. My first Neuro knew nothing- kept telling me I had MS, even after the MRI was diagnosed: "TM- no sign of MS"

Hope that helps.
