You are not alone with talking to your feet/legs in order to  function.  I 
did all the time for years, and still do now when I am very  tired.  I have to 
remember the heel-toe thing or I stumble.  Not fun  going down head first.  
Much easier going down on the bum if you must  fall.
 
We do what we have to in order to function.  Thanks for  the reminder - it 
keeps us humble, and helps to let the newbies that we all have  had to learn to 
do the same things in our therapy sessions if we were fortunate  enough to 
learn to walk again.  This is true with a walker, cane, crutches  or not.
