Hi Rick,

I had something similar in my right hip area. It bothered me in Nov. when I went to see the Pysiatrist and he didn't seem to think too much of it. I probably didn't complain enough. LOL Anyway, when I went again in end of May I told him it was really bothering me and was finding it hard to even lay on that side at night. So he had me lay on my left side on a hard examining table. He then pushed on the side of my hip near the front and boy of boy, I nearly lifted off the table. That was not where I thought the pain was coming from but it must have been. He then had me lay on the right hip on that hard bed and that hurt terribly too. He gave me a shot of some type of cortizone into the hip and told me it would get numb in about 20 or 30 mins. WOW. I hadn't realized how much it was hurting until it stopped with that shot. He also told me that if the pain came back I was to go and see him in two months (the end of July) and he would give me another shot using a spinal needle which is much longer and give me the shot again. He said it was a type of bursitis and that the muscle is deep there in the hip so the longer needle would get into it if the first needle didn't help. I am happy to say the first needle helped and is still effective for me. Perhaps your doctor should use a longer needle too. Just a suggestion though.

Subject: [TMIC] leg pain

Dear LIst, Good morning from Tn. I have been having a weird leg pain that seems to be getting worse as time goes on. I took it to my Dr. and she described it as a form of bursitis called grey bursitis. It is a constant pain and I feel it is complicated by muscle atrotphy. The pain seems to dominate around my hip bone and goes south involving the kneecap and the muscles and ligaments all the way down to my ankle. It is only in my left leg. The pain like I say never goes away and the pain also is very hard to describe. I guess that is the reason I'm having trouble getting relief. I rub it down real heavy with Icy Hot at night and that helps for a while . My wife is so sick of smelling Icy hot that I think she is going to start sleeping in another room. Just kidding We neither one sleep well without touching each other at night. I have no feeling on the outer layer of skin so this pain is totally from the inside like a bone ache. What should I try.Pressure seems to help and I w! as thinking about wrapping it with ace bandage not to tight as to cut of circulation. I've heard of a sleeve type thing that also warms and pulsates. Has anyone got any of these same type leg pains. And if so what have you tried. The Dr. is giving me Hydrocortisone shots in the area but they don't seem to be helping. Somebody help me please. Rick
