I was effected ( or is it affected?) from T10 - T12 with my first episode
with TM and then C4 - T1 on the second episode. I"ve made good recovery
from being a quad. I have full use of my R arm/hand and most of my L
arm/hand, however, my strength has deminished terribly - a gallon of milk
feels like I'm lifting 50 lbs. I do not have any feeling in my L leg but it
is the strongest of the two. My R leg has spotty feeling, but it is the one
that is undependable and will spasm or give out whenever.
My feet always feel cold but they do sweat - if I wear soxes they are damp
when I take them off. I sweat like I've ran a marathon from the shoulders
up - sometimes just sitting in my recliner I will break out sweating! Then
the next moment I will be so very cold. It's worse than when I went thru
premature change of life!
My bottom, feet and legs always feel cold to the touch. If I sit on
something cold, it feels like it is heated - when I went in the hospital the
first time, I thought that were heating the bed pans and it was really nice
- but when I had to removed my own bed pan is when I discovered that they
were still the same old cold bed pans! Boy what a let down after 3 days of
thinking that the hospitals were finally concerned about a patients comfort.
Both of my legs are extremely sensitive to cold. If cold water hits either
leg, it feels as it nails are hitting them. My R leg will spasm violently
if my R foot is in cold water. I have to make sure that the water is warm
and I'm sitting on my bath stool before I can put my R foot down and turn
the shower on.
I have the red spotches mainly on my L arm but have seen them in various
places on my body. I also get a rash on my L arm, always in the same place,
which seems to occur after I've been stressed. The rash will itch like
crazy several times a day while the rest of the time it just looks terrible.
I drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water daily plus 2+ cups of coffee, a
glass of juice, and a 20 oz bottle of energy drink daily - no wonder I have
to empty my bladder hourly. I don't really have control of my bladder -
when I get the urge to go, I may have 1 - 2 minutes to make it to the
bathroom otherwise the pad I wear needs to be changed. I use to have really
good control of my bladder. Luckily, I have an ileostomy so I don't have BM
problems which is great cause I don't have control of my muscles to push to
empty my bladder or have a BM.
I'm always with a terrible back pain. Cymbalta helps. TENS helps. A back
brace helps. Pain pills help. Soaking in very warm water helps. BUT,
nothing takes away the pain - all of the above dulls the pain but there are
days that nothing helps, especially when the barometer is changing or I've
over done the day (sometimes week) before.
Other than TM and TM's residual effects listed above, I'm in good health and
feel good.
