This bothers me a lot Trudy!!!
My dad had Alzheimer's
and after my experience in the nursing home and hospital with
TM where i documented months of daily mis-doses (!!!!!!)
i MUST keep my few wits about me. I saw and heard a lovely elderly woman get
undone. She had back surgery and was given a diuretic. She cried at
the painn at suddenly having to get up again and again right after
back surgery because she didn't want to wet herself. a crazy evil
nurse who fancied herself a phlebotomist, hurt her repeatedly. I
was able to say no to things, and monitor my meds and catch near
mistake after near mistake.... like the doctor almost giving me the
diuretic that i Knew his supervisor had said was for the other
lady... Egad.... so many bad memories from my TM incarceration ( all
institutions where power is unequal, suck and the hospital and the
nursing home were like polite prisons full of small tortures and
indifferent abuse) but useful useful useful! I've got to be able to
observe and remember!
Akua ( who yes, has since written to her legislators for nursing home
reform and kept in touch with a couple of friends there, to see them
through)
I saw a news clip a few weeks ago regarding memory loss and bladder
control meds. It refers to "older" patients, however, my worse loss
of memory time with TM was also during the time I was taking Detrol
LA. It might have been a coincidence, but the FDA is making the
makers add memory loss to the list of possible effects in the
packaging. I have wondered if anyone is concerned about this?
