mosh has 1) a client and server at each end of the connection and 2) one
writer and one reader. this means it doesn't have the same limitations as
tmux

in any case is a compromise between speed and responsiveness, within the
limits we have. we could probably make ^c more responsive but it would make
output slower in the case where you don't press ^c
