What do you mean that the enter key doesn't do anything?

The normal 5250 numeric pad enter key is the key you can press to
justify the data entered into a field.
For example, if you enter data into a field that needs a number, the
enter key justifies the data to the right.

After you enter your name and password you normally need to press the
right "Cntrl" key to have the screen processed.
The IBM client access and tn5250j can also be configured so that the
return key is also the process data key.

In short, the return key is not the same as the enter key, and they are
normally not the process data key.

I obviously don't have a lot of experience in this realm.  I was
showing
this to another fellow here @work, and the first thing that he thought
of
was to try it on a desktop PC with a "real keyboard" - ie; one with
the
number pad.  It works.  Here on my laptop - I can key in my name and
password - but the "enter" key doesn't seem to actually do anything.
 
Stuck again.  ;(  <grin>
