in theory, you could reduce downtime from a few microseconds to zero as you do not need to close the socket. In practise, it seems unlikely that you yould not also want to reload the application in thus cases. Thus i think you should kill the child and refork after you had re-read the tntnet.xml. It might be a nice freature, however i do don't think it's really worth the effort as you would still loose all sessions.
