*12th Ugadi Telugu Creative Writing Contest*

Vanguri Foundation of America, Inc is pleased to announce the *12th Telugu
Creative Writing Contest* open for all writers of North America on the
occasion of Sarvajit Nama Ugadi (March 20, 2007). The contest is also open
to Telugu writers living outside India in any country.

The Contest categories are (1) Short Story (2) Kavitha and (3) Essay (4)
Novel

The contest, conducted for the past eleven years, is intended to encourage
and inspire all Telugu writers to continue their creative writing. A panel
of qualified Telugu Literary persons of North America and India will judge
the winning the entries. Two prizes ($116 and $58) will be awarded in each
of the Short Story, Poetry and Essay categories. One prize in the novel
category will be awarded with Cash Award of $250. The prize money for VFA
may increase the prize money for deserving entries. All winners will receive
a Certificate of Excellence.

The winning and other selected entries will be published by Vanguri
Foundation of America, Inc. in accordance with its publication schedules.
Since its inception in 1994, the Foundation has published 31 books, most of
them by Telugu writers of North America, including 9 volumes of "America
Telugu Kathanika", a compilation of selected Telugu Short Stories by Telugu
writers of North America. The Foundation also organized five bi-annual
"America Telugu Sahiti Sadassu" and "Motta Modati Prapamcha Telugu Sahiti
Sadassu" in Hyderabad on December 31, 2006 & January 1, 2007.

Contest rules are as follows:

1. Submissions to Short Story and Essay categories must be less than 15 hand
written pages and 5 pages for Poetry.

We encourage the participants to explore themes that are related to the
various phases of the lives of Telugu Americans. While surveying the
collection of stories submitted during the past decade, we recognize that there
are many unexplored areas, such as our professional careers, future
expectations or plain utopian dreams and the impact of globalization on our
lives.

2. Only original, unpublished works at the time of submission (including
personal blogs) will be accepted. However, authors may publish their work
any where after submission. The authors must send their real name, address,
phone number and e-mail even though pen name can be used for the purpose of
publication.

3. Last date to receive entries is March 20, 2007 (Sarvajit Nama Samvatsara
Ugadi Day). Articles may be sent to the following addresses:
