Hai Team, Today i spoke to sankar, for whom we paid 1200 for spoken english in VETA(formerly it was vivekananda institute for english ) Chennai. He is regularly attending the classes( attended some 12 classes till now). I will goto the institute once may be next week and enquire his future requirements and his status. He is saying they r teaching him even small words like father n mother and with correct pronunciation. Hez happy for what hez learning.
Before I ask him if hez practicing after comin out of teh institute, he himself said he has lot of free time in the afternoon in the temple and so hez regularly practising. So thats the update abt sankar. Abt Chennai TMAD activities, I have not at done anything yet but just now got an idea of utilising sankar to speak in tamil with people in slums. I am also interested in teaching kids though more inclined to mathematics n puzzle solving kind of teaching, I am ok with teaching english fundamentals for students like sankar in those slums if they r interested. So hopefully I will start them soon. Abt thalessemia, I have just now googled and got some lab phone numbers here in chennai so i need to call them and find out how much do they charge it here in chennai and then i will mail it to all in my company. And while googling also found out that bone marrow transplantation wud cure it permanently and now a days even cud be done on a 6 month old baby costing just 9 to 10 lakhs in corporate hosp( for who can afford it). Vellore CMC has already done some 108 such operations for kids with thalassemia major(good news right :)) One last thing, after reading abt CMC, once again I was reminded of one thing, that many of the private medical colleges hav good hospitals but no patients, I heard that they need lot of patients and am sure they will have some funds allocated for operations free of cost to poor and children so if we can find out, we can refer them to our cases. Thats it from chennai, hopefully very soon we shall start somethg here. Already saw some one in TMAD comm in orkut frm chennai and scrapped him bt no reply till now :( ArunK
