Hi All,

I couldn't go to the school this morning for distribution of remaining
slippers. I called up HM of that school, Mr. P. Naresh Garu and requested him
to distribute them. Just now, he has informed me that he distributed all except
3 pairs which were not fitting to their foot sizes. But those sizes are not
available with the shop keeper where we bought (Even we returned 2 pairs to him
and bought required sizes from other retailer). Mr. Naresh Garu is going to
conduct tution to the students during this summer vacation. As those students
who couldn't get slippers, are from very poor family, I'll return those pairs
to the shop keeper, buy right ones from other retailers and distribute them by
this week-end.

Regards
Karthik

Subject: Re: [tomakeadifference] Update on SDP

Friends,

On saturday morning, myself and Karthik visited Mehdipatnam school. (we have
photos and will update by this weekend. There is a problem with my home
connection and I couldn't access it for the past 10 days or so. Hopefully I can
get it back in this week).

As Karthik said, the Headmaster is very dedicated and committed person. He will
co-operate a lot.

We distributed slippers to few students. There is a need for exchange. Sarath
and Karthik went for exchange on saturday evening. This morning Headmaster
might have distributed the slippers to all the children.

I can see a long-term association with this school. The reasons being:

1. The school is near to some of our members - Karthik and Kalpana (she too
might join Karthik's team)

2. Not so far to our other active members

3. Headmaster is co-operative and he can give us all the support

I will write it in detail later (I didn't bring the book in which I noted down
the points).

This is the summary of their requirements:

1. They need notebooks and pens/pencils
2. Books for Library if we can provide
3. Uniform for boys (Naandi sponsored two pairs of uniform for girl students)

I personally feel that we can provide the first two. As authorities are keen on
getting the children to school, Uniform is not a constraint. If they can have
good dress that is fine. The purpose of Uniform is something that children
shouldn't differentiate among themselves and they should feel that they are all
equal. If we can provide fine, but when compared to the first two, the third
one is not so important.

We have noted the strengths of children in each class and the requirements of
books. (We have a set of note books - for 23 students, that we bought for
Anikepalli children. We can use them here). They asked us to provide by June
25th or July 1st though the school re-opens on June 12th.

This is just an update. There is a lot more to write about/on this school. Will
write once we upload photos.

Thank you.

with regards,
PRASANTHI.
