This is the email i received from NATS who is coordinating the shipment of
material donations from US.

There is overwhelming response from the community and we expect to ship an
estimated volume of over 200,000 lbs.  Hence, we will be shipping via air
freight and ocean freight (containers).  We have created an account with FedEx
using which you can pack and ship the clothes yourself to a central location
(warehouse in New York).

The shipments will be dispatched to India starting October 19th from our
warehouse.  You can drop off boxes at FedEx location from October 13th thru
October 31st.  We are receiving e-mail requests for labels and will start
sending them out on Monday.

Following are the do-it-yourself instructions:
1.      Donate only those supplies (clothes, towels, blankets, shoes) that are
in good condition i.e. those that you can use yourself.
2.       Sort the supplies by type and pack them in boxes.  Each box cannot
weigh more than 40 lbs and each dimension of the box cannot exceed 30 inches.
3.       When you are done with packaging, send a message to
[email protected] with the following details: your name, address,
city, state, zip and number of boxes.  We will e-mail you the labels and an
account number that you can use to ship the packages from your nearest FedEx
location.
4.       Print and attach the labels on the boxes.
5.       Drop the boxes at your nearest FedEx location using the account number
provided.

There are NATS volunteers in some metro areas to help facilitate the process
and the list is available at
http://www.natsworld.org/nats-ap-food-relief-volunteers.php.  If you cannot
do-it-yourself, you can contact them and drop the supplies (in boxes) at a
location provided by them.  We request you to drop them off in ready-to-ship
boxes to make the process more efficient.

Please let me know if any questions...

cheers
Suresh
