Hi Prasanthi and others,

This sunday I and Kashyap got an opportunity to visit Kurnool. We visited a
village called 'Sangala'. We could not distribute on that day as there is
too much of crowd and it is informed that already that village is taken care
by other NGOs. Suresh (from AID) statyed back and he distributed in other
villages where there is a better need. Below are my key observations.

(1) Power is completely cut for this village and it takes few more days to
restore it. Whoever wants to do a relief camp should keep this in mind that
there wont be light after 6.30 PM.

(2) only 10% of agricultural land was left out and rest of it is washed
away. This crop is a complete loss and moreover to restore the land (Lot of
sand got accumulated due to floods) to its orginal form it takes around 3
years (As per local people's say).

(3) School is closed since the floods started.

(4) Few people are feeling shy to stand in queue and collect food though
they donot have anything to eat. (As per local people's say..)

(5) Lot of NGOs distribute rice, vegetables, dal etc.. and localites said
that they have enough of it for a week or so..

(6) It is always an advantage to have local contacts (any NGOs, sarapanches,
relief commissioners.. ) to better use the relief material. Luckily, we got
in touch with a student Mohan who is a localite and helped actively to do
things better way. we dumped the material in his house to distribute later.
Kudos to his determination. He stopped going to his college and completely
concentrating on the flood relief activities. His father also helped alot.
He is an RMP and he knows many people in that area.
