Hi Prasanthi & Team, I recently worked with Akshayapatra. On the occassion of my daughters 3rd birthday, we requested all our friends to give money instead of gifts and fortunately everyone obliged. We raised $500 and i used my company's gift matching, so in total we raised $1000. This $1000 was used to sponsor mid day meal program , run by Akshaya patra, for a government school with almost 70 kids for a whole year. I can introduce you to the contact in hyderabad. cheers Suresh

I am happy to share that one of our members Kiran Nikam (initially a Bangalore member, now US member) wants to contribute around 2000 to 3000 rs. monthly for food distribution to poor. His idea is to distribute the kind of food that we eat (not just pulihora and daddojanam) to the poor once in a week. Specially to old and challenged. He wants us to find out if any hotel is interested to supply quality food at a competitive price as we take every week and with a purpose. I told him that initially we did for six weeks and it became difficult because there is not much of a volunteer support, to cook and distribute is very time consuming and there were some different opinions raised on the project. He is ready to contribute and implement through TMAD. I know that some of our volunteers would be very interested in this kind of project and we can be assured of at least 5k to 10k monthly contribution for this project alone (project-specific contributions) . Request you all to come up with your innovative thoughts so that the food goes to the actual needy and also efficient ways of ordering too (whether to give support to a family by providing this livelihood opportunity to them or to order from any hotel set up by challenged people. I watched a special programme in TV9 two years ago about a group of challenged women setting up a hotel. But Kiran is apprehensive because it is a TV9 programme. But I feel we can give it a try.) The idea is to start this project from March. If we can get sumptuous and quality food @ 10 rs. to 15 rs. per person, it would be great. I even think of visiting Akshayapatra Foundation set up in Hyderabad to understand how they are managing. Thank you. with regards, Prasanthi.
