java is linked against /usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.so.6 for AWT/Swing.
So libX11.so must be installed on your Linux box. This does 
not mean, that you have to install a X Server, just the  
shared libraries. For Suse-Linux  install the package xshared,
its only 2 MB.

Windows NT indeed has very low Total Cost of Ownership.
Trouble is, Microsoft _owns_ Windows NT. You just licensed it...
