Any one know about scoreboard and slots?

When the tomcat&apache is up for long time, number of slots are getting increased, when I restart the apache, jk start creating again.
What does a slot mean? why the number is growing?


In fact I am testing my new development server with JMeter (3x25 threads = 75 threads) since yesterday

Software configuration :
Red Hat Linux release 9 (Kernel 2.4.20-8smp)
J2SDK1.4.2
Tomcat-4.1.24
mod_jk2 (source 2.0.2)
Apache 2.0.47
