You probably didn't miss anything in the documentation. It makes the most sense to include -Xrs, even though JDK 1.3 doesn't support it. If you can't upgrade to JDK 1.3.1 or better, remove the -Xrs. You just have to be aware that if you run Tomcat as a service, logging out will terminate the service.
