We have had the same problem with Solaris 8 and tomcat 4.1.18 No solution found yet. Tried using nohup to start the process but still exits when you leave the session.
have you tried my suggestion? What happens if you start other servers in the same way? What happens if you start a java application (with no GUI) that way?
