Hi,
  I am wanting to learn servlets and use it in an application.I was told that the
right way to do this is to have a separate folder(Windows XP Home OS) outside the
installation path of Tomcat, any drive on the Hard Disk.
  I decided to put it in the E: drive in the folder "sampleapp".The sampleapp folder
has a "WEBINF" created by me.Then the "WEB-INF" folder has got "classes" and "lib"
directories,created by me.
  The "WEB-INF" folder has got the web.xml which is written from scratch.
  I hope that till here I am doing it right.
  The "server.xml" file is modified to i.e., <Context> has been changed appropriately.
  The "web.xml" has been written to a particular extent,not sure how it is written
though.
  I wanted to know how this web.xml file is written so that I could test the working
of a sample servlet file.

                   /* web.xml file */

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>

<!DOCTYPE web-app
    PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Web Application 2.3//EN"
    "http://java.sun.com/dtd/web-app_2_3.dtd";>

<web-app>
  <display-name>Welcome to Tomcat</display-name>
  <description>
     Welcome to Tomcat
  </description>

<!-- Servlet mapping start -->

<servlet>
 <servlet-name>HelloServlet</servlet-name>
 <servlet-class>HelloServlet</servlt-class>
</servlet>

<servlet-mapping>
 <servlet-name>HelloServlet</servlet-name>
 <url-pattern>sampleapp</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>

<!-- Servlet mapping end -->

</web-app>

               /* End of web.xml File */

Any help on this is deeply appreciated.

Thanks
AS
