In tinkering with my Tomcat5 install on WindowsXP, I deleted the catalina.out file. I thought that when Tomcat restarted it would create a new one, but it did not. I then created a new text file, named it catalina.out, and made sure it was not marked "read-only." But Tomcat no longer writes to it.
