It'll write to one of several files depending on a number of factors:

localhost_log.2004-03-15.txt
or
localhost_yourAppContext_log.2004-03-15.txt
or
others depending on how you've got things setup.

I often kill tomcat, delete all files in CATALINA_HOME/logs/ start it back
up and see what files are created and what's in them. that'll answer your
questions for sure.

This isn't Rob Ross from Sheboygan Wisconsin is it?
