Let's say that I don't want to mess with my working server.xml. If I have an application that's accessed via "webapps/myapp/jsp/index.html", where would I put the RemoteAddrValve code? Do I create a context fragment called webapps/myapp.xml and put it there? I'd rather not have to add a context declaration for every application into the server.xml. I have quite a few applications, and they all have different access requirements.

Hi, As the Valve config reference doc says, you can put a Valve inside an Engine, Host, or Context. It applies at whatever scope you put it. So if you have a Valve inside a Context, it only applies to that context. If you have a Valve inside a Host, it applies to all Contexts within the Host, including those automatically created and not explicitly declared. As Valve is a tomcat-specific feature, it would never be in web.xml. It'd be in server.xml or your context configuration file.
