Hi,

I'm using
Tomcat 3.3.2 (connection via modjk to)
Apache 1.3
Windows XP Pro

My laptop's network name is, say, DOLACHIN. Going to
"http://DOLACHIN"; on our local network gets an
immediate response - somehow Windows networks make a
broadcast and find the machine - I have no clue how
this happens (no DNS server knows about DOLACHIN.) My
applet webapp is called "myproject" and under certain
circumstances, "http://DOLACHIN/myproject"; also gets
an immediate response.

But not always! For example, if
1. my wireless connection is enabled by not available,
or
2. is enabled available and but is slow, or
3. is enabled available fast, but something else is
different

"http://DOLACHIN"; (i.e. apache) still gives an
immediate response, but "http://DOLACHIN/myproject";
(i.e. tomcat) responds after a 30 second delay - 15
seconds before the code runs and another 15 before the
response is made. Disabling the wireless, solves the
problem. The problem also occurs on our desktops that
have obscure unused network connections - and the
problem goes away when the connection is disabled.

The same thing even happens with
http://localhost/myproject but not as reliably. Also,
http://127.0.0.1/myproject always works perfectly.

Now the question. What is it that tomcat is trying to
do that apache does not bother doing? How do I tell
Tomcat not to do it?

Many thanks in advance and very eager to answer any
questions that may help you help me!!!

Dola

PS: The reason I can't just do
http://127.0.0.1/myproject is that we use an explorer
toolbar that is harwired to http://dolachin/myproject.
