A thought:

The idea of having an auto-generated conf file is nice.  But the above
is necessary because the auto-generated conf file often isn't 100%
correct, or 100% as desired.

It would be nice if there was a way to control all aspects of the
auto-generated conf file so that it could 100% as desired.

I guess I'm writing this as a suggestion to the tomcat developers (who
might not even be reading this list, although I believe some do :-).

Caveat: I don't the details of how the auto-generated conf file is
created, so I don't know how feasible this is.
