I agree with Yoav on this one. Servlet containers' minimum offerings and behavior are mandated by the servlet spec. You'd to yourself a favor to learn the spec and then just use the Tomcat docs to get up and running.
Dustin Calloway's "Inside Servlets" is a fine book in this regard, though it only covers up through spec 2.3.
