My suggestion: DUMP the ms driver!!! Another good one is from www.j-netdirect.com
They have a complete JDBC 2.0 complaint jdbc-odbc driver. This will allow you to work with SQL Server or access from linux, solaris or windows. Driver is called JDataConnect. We use that here. Very flexible, minor limitations (on field size). And no errors so far.
