Using Zip file instead of TAR file

hi list,

is it ok if i installed on a Solaris machine the ZIP
version of Jakarta-Tomcat-4.0 and not the TAR GZ file?

actually i already installed and used it...so far i haven't got any
problem. is there a difference between this releases?..is ZIP version file just for Windows OS or it can also be used on Linux and Solaris OS?
