Howdy, >So the general consensus is Log4j over jdk1.4 logging & including >commons-logging so in the future when we upgrade and/or switch loggers it >will be easier? > >Does anyone have experience with both Log4j & jdk1.4-loggin???
I do. I had to experiment with JDK 1.4 logging just to see what it's all about. Waste of time. I find the online log4j documentation (at http://jakarta.apache.org/log4j) more then sufficient. You will also find the log4j user mailing list responsive and knowledgeable. My advice is to just dig in and get started with a trivial log4j configuration. Play a bit, get comfortable, and then add commons-logging if you'd like.
