Yep, everything in settings.s after #AUTO# is re-written at build time.

I think this must be a problem with leftover files, or there is some
assumption we are making differently.
I can unpack/rebuild 1.7.118 into a clean ext2 directory with no problems
at all, it gives me 2 sectors free. Can you give me a step-by-stop of
*EXACTLY* what you key to get the shortage, so I can try to replicate what
is happening?
