Well, I'm definitely seeing it here.
And noone has denied the problem either.
I would very much like to see some feedback one way or the other from
others who try it on a rh6.1 installation.

Ok, fair enough. But asking you to do that wasn't the purpose of my
message.

Yes, I agree. I have no idea what's going on.

Nothing unusual that I can recall, but I'll doing this and let you
know.

Ok ok, hang on to your trousers :-)

That isn't at all a reasonable attitude.
Hey, what I'm saying is not a criticism of tomsrtbt, nor a criticism
of redhat. I'm just giving an observation of what I'm seeing. I'm
sure that there are quite a few others here who - like myself - like
tomsrtbt, but also use redhat as their base installation.
I happen to like redhat... it's a brilliant distribution. The new
RH61 is very, very nice to use. So is its rpm package manager (as it
has always been). I need to manage dozens, potentially hundreds, of
linux boxes, and rpm allows me to do some aspects of this very easily.
Mandrake and SuSe (and others, eg, TurboLinux) also use rpm for their
package management. It's nothing short of brilliant (ahhh... that is
once you get to know and understand how it works).
Different strokes for different folks. But we all have one thing in
common... we all use linux.
I don't think that any of this is specifically a problem "caused" by
redhat, but one related to the kernel and perhaps changes / upgrades
to the ext2fs and glibc libraries and perhaps to mount. If this is
the case, then what is now being seen (if verified) is therefore
inevitable.
RedHat can't be "blamed" for their early move to glibc 2.x -- it was
inevitable, and they happened to be the first to do it -- others
(apart from slugware) quickly followed. libc5 is broken and insecure
and no longer actively supported. You can't deny this Tom - it's
fact. But I agree that it's very suitable for using in a great
utility like tomsrtbt.
One thing's for sure, whatever is causing this problem definitely
needs to be confirmed, identified, and then solutions found.
