        I'm getting that error on a Debian 2.1 (unstable) system
        running a 2.0.36 (stock) kernel.  I was testing by 
        using:

                mke2fs -i 2048 

        ... trying to increase the inode density. 

        I would guess that this is a mount issue, rather than a
        kernel or fs module matter.

        This doesn't appear to be RH6.1 specific.
