I'm in the middle of recompiling the pcmcia modules for a 2.2.15
kernel. If anyone is interested I'll can do a small write up, and
post the finished rtbt.
I am making this specifically for a laptop to mount a nfs disk
from a server. There is an in-kernel nfs server, but I haven't
tried it. I don't know how much bigger it would make it. I also
dropped support for scsi (not many laptops have it).

Sounds like what we need is a Do-It-Yourself Manual that explains
how to make your own RTBT style rescue floppy.
Since everybody's system has different requirements, the best
solution is to build your own. That's one of the beautiful things
about Linux; you can custom build a kernel for your
hardware/software
