I noticed that there are error messages when I type dmesg:
Something about Tx problem and asks if cable is bad.

I've swapped out the cable.  I get link at both the hub and the connector to the PC 
Card.

Here is what I am type to change the IP Address to that of my internal network:
ifconfig eth0 192.168.138.8 broadcast 192.168.138.255 netmask 255.255.255.0

and the add a route with:
route add -net 192.168.138.0
