I installed tomsrtbt to a floppy from the .tar.gz file and it boots fine
on the old box with standard floppy drive. But on the box I am trying to
boot to fsck due to corrupted filesystem, it correctly detects my drives,
but hangs after during or after a partition check of hdc, which is
actually the ATAPI floppy I am booting from.

hard drives hda and hdb are detected fine along with:
hdc: LS-120 F200 08 UHD Floppy, ATAPI FLOPPY drive
hdd: TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R1002, ATAPI CDROM drive
floppy0: no floppy controllers found

farther down:

Partition check:
  hda: hda1 hda2 < hda5 >
  hdb: hdb1 hdb2 hdb3 < hdb5 hdb6 >
hdc: 1680kB, 3360 blocks, 512 sector size
hdc: 1680kB. 80/2/21 CHS, 150 kBps, 512 sector size, 720 rpm
  hdc:
_ <-here it hangs with blinking cursor

Is this boot problem due to the ATAPI floppy, or the VIA chipset? It is a
Compaq Presario 5240 with K2-6/400 which has been faultless until now.
