For what it's worth, I had the same problem the other day on a
Dell Inspiron 2500 using tomsrtbt-1.7.361. I managed to edit
rc.custom on another machine to turn off the PCMCIA initiation
so it would boot.
I don't have that computer in front of me any more, but it
hanged on a "cs: IO port probe ..." message.
