Try 2.0.103, it may make a difference.  No, it still won't work.

The kernel doesn't support USB and when it takes over from the
bios it will fail.

The 1.44 vs. 1.72 may or may not even be the issue.

Redesign it to use initrd instead of a kernel-loaded ramdisk.

The initrd is loaded by the BIOS and can be made to work.
