Thanks John.

I think Tom is right that most floppy drives can handle the 1.722 MB format, but
perhaps newer BIOS's are rejecting the format.  I can't recall exactly where I
read it, but I found pretty strong authority that links problems with 1.722 MB
(and other nonstandard formats) to the BIOS, not the drive's capabilities.

Tom might consider the subtle caveat to his general statement that most drives
are compatible with the larger format that some /newer/ BIOS's reject the larger
format.  I think this might suggest that the problem will get worse with time,
not better.  That's progress, I suppose!
