Thanks Tom. Actually, after sending the posting, I discovered that the build directory corresponding to that diskette is still intact on my workstation (and it wasn't the most recent one either) so I simply re-ran install.s from that dir and then edited the rc.custom.gz directly on the new diskette. So here's thanks to your process that creates a new build dir for each buildit!

(I knew it was a stupid question ... -- but thanks for the info anyway, could prove useful one day).

There aren't very many gotchas, you can use dd to clone, to and from an image or the actual /dev/fd0u1722 (don't use fd0H1440 or fd0), and you can loop-mount it to edit just those files, then umount and dd to a device. It should all work
as expected. -Tom
