I can imagine wanting to override the autodetect, especially if one is
trying to be tricky and have overlapping workspaces in the same
directory tree.

Dan: if we do keep a command-line option to specify the SCM, yes, -m
<scm> makes a lot more sense than having a different option for each
SCM.
