Bonnie - we (Padraig and myself) would be very happy to help out and see 
what we can do to make life easier for folks coming over to Mercurial 
with the NetBeans Mercurial plugin. The more feedback we get the happier 
we are, the good the bad and the ugly of course ;)

We are working on remote repository support and merge support at the 
minute. We've done some initial testing with the new CND C/C++ module 
for NetBeans 6.0 m10 and it works for new projects, but there's a bug 
for existing projects that would need sorted.
