Hi Joanmarie, I agree with your original assessment that CLOSED may not be the correct state to be associated with an open bug in Bugster. Bugs should not be CLOSED immediately when tracked upstream, and Bugster shouldn't be an exception. However, a TRACKEDINBUGSTER bug could be CLOSED/FIXED, and CLOSED/FIXINBUILD based on Bugster's "fixed in" and other fields, and this would be fairly trivial to automate if a Bugzilla alias is on Bugster's CC list. My opinion is that the default d.o.o search would be more useful if it includes all bugs that may still affect a user of the latest public build - e.g. CLOSED but not FIXINBUILD. The difficulty in preventing duplicates reflects a usability issue with Bugzilla's workflow that should be addressed. Even when you are aware of d.o.o's default search settings, the advanced search interface is cumbersome enough that bug reporters can still make mistakes. Since searching for duplicates is an essential part of the process of filing a bug it should be initiated as part of the bug creation itself. For example, the user filing a new bug could be presented with a list of related bugs based on the summary text (or possibly details) of a report before a bug is actually filed, and offered to cancel the bug report or attach it as a comment to the existing report. Canonical's Launchpad service does something similar (although you cannot enter bug details until after the duplicate search is performed) and I would not be surprised if there is already a Bugzilla plugin or patch for this functionality. This has already bit me a couple of times which is why I am presenting these opinions. ;) -Albert > Thanks and take care. > --joanie > _______________________________________________ tools-discuss mailing list tools-discuss@opensolaris.org
