It's indeed a problem, I for one am mostly open to suggestions. I personally don't use the simple search, and when i use the advanced search i generally clear the default search filter. Bugzilla's default searches are sadly designed for engineers over customers. Unfortunately for any non commercial deployment (or any deployment w/ more than 100 users), inevitably, the number of customers always dwarfs the number of engineers. The best proposal I have is providing the ability for each user to specify a role for when they search (and make the default role for people who aren't logged in default to a more customer oriented search which would not exclude closed bugs but might sort them to the bottom). > Since > searching for duplicates is an essential part of the process of filing a > bug it should be initiated as part of the bug creation itself. http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/enter_bug.cgi?classification=Distribution&format=guided is the basic attempt supported by Bugzilla in this direction... > For example, > the user filing a new bug could be presented with a list of related bugs > based on the summary text (or possibly details) of a report before a bug is > actually filed, and offered to cancel the bug report or attach it as a > comment to the existing report.
