Where can the Composer functions be used?  Only in the SPARQL Editor in 
TopBraid, or is there some way to use them in applications?

Andrew;  For a full listing of the functions for Composer, go to Help
> Reference.  There is a listing for all functions and SPARQL Motion
modules.

SPIN is an RDF notation for SPARQL queries.  This will help you create
SPARQL functions and templates, but will not support general-purpose
processing.  SPARQL extensions can be created using the Jena API - see
http://www.topquadrant.com/sparqlmotion/extending.html
