Sometime ago, another user had a somewhat similar issue, but with an 
earlier Eclipse. He reports that a proper location of Eclipse 
installation folder - concise, unsecured location - is essential for the 
Eclipse updates to work. Here is the link of the discussion:

Also please double check that you have Eclipse 3.4.2.
