Here is what I just did. I make AlinaMojica the selected resource, and  
go to her Graph tab. Then I expand the relationship to gender, making  
female visible. I check the two boxes as shown in the screenshot in  
the help and press the "star" SPARQL button once (no double-click). I  
get this query in the SPARQL view, as expected:

SELECT ?person
WHERE {
     ?person :gender :female .
     ?person :birthYear 1965 .
}

What is different in your use case?
