I now see my problem. "Model > Compare with...", the selected window is a model, displays a dialog from which you can pick another model in the project. There is a "(right-click) > Compare with..." on models in the Navigator that gives different options than "Model > Compare with..." That is what I was using (I confess to liking right-click commands). "(right-click) > Compare with..." displays two options, "Each Other" and "Local History." If you right-click in the Navigator with two models selected, you get a "Text Compare" window instead of a "modelname.diff" window. This window is not a model window, so "Run SPARQL query..." is disabled, etc., as I reported. This seems to be to be a bug or at least a misfeature. Perhaps the context menu command should be named "Text Compare" instead of "Compare with..."? > The "Run SPARQL query from SPIN template..." step (which should say > "Model > Run SPARQL query from SPIN template...") also works the same > way.
