Hi Steward, I will try to answer to your questions, but I think you should use eclipse-platform newsgroup to have a more detailed answer.
You can of course uninstall unused plugins like oAW or Acceleo if you are not using code and doc generators. OSATE is not required if you are not using AADL model, ... the Release Note should give you a better view of what is really needed depending on the use you have with Topcased. The list of plugins you are listing in the Startup and Shutdown preference page indicates clearly that we should indeed check against our plugins whether this is really necessary that these plugins are launched at startup. This could indeed lead to performance issues ...
