I cannot reproduce your issue on a Topcased 2.1 (on UML).
Before that, this bug was existing on the initialization of the
preferences. It happened when the diagram and the editor were defined in
two different plugins.
I have modified the API of the PreferenceIniatilizer in order to solve
this issue in 2.1 (with a new extension point). I have also modified the
Topcased generators to reflect those changes.
You should have a look at the
"org.topcased.modeler.preferences.AbstractTopcasedPreferenceInitializer"
and the extension point : "topcasedPreferenceInitializer"
You can also have a look to the UML and SysML editor that implement this
new API.

background set to white and foreground to black for a component
In the graphical editor the properties are taken into account
